Learn about the basics of artificial intelligence and how it has been developed for computer applications from Dixie State OpenCourseWare Online Artificial Intelligence Course (CS 4300).

This MIT OCW (OpenCourseWare) course introduces students to probability and random variables. Topics include distribution functions, binomial, geometric, hypergeometric, and Poisson distributions. The other topics covered are uniform, exponential, normal, gamma and beta distributions; conditional probability; Bayes theorem; joint distributions; Chebyshev inequality; law of large numbers; and central limit theorem.

Efforts to create an army of cyborg insects are being pursued by a team of US-based engineers. The group is investigating ways to harvest energy from the creatures to power sensors and other equipment fastened to their bodies. The team has created an energy scavenging device that is attached close to the insects' wings. It suggested the creatures might one day be used to aid search-and-rescue operations and surveillance.

After the previous workshops, held in Mons (Belgium), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Istanbul (Turkey), Paris (France), Genova (Switzerland), Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Plzen (Czech Republic) which had an impressive success record and had proven the viability and usefulness of this original workshop, the 8th edition will take place in Supélec (Metz, France).

Image feature detection and description are the basis of image and video analysis. Robust and efficient image features can significantly improve the performance of image/video retrieval, recognition, tracking, biometrics, matching, registration, reconstruction, etc. Image features can be local, dense, dense local, semi-local and global. In many cases, image features are expected to be stable, repeatable, illumination invariant, discriminative, representative, and even have semantic senses.

Autonomous learning is a very broad term and includes many different kinds of learning. Fundamental to all of them is some kind of a learning algorithm. Whatever the kind of learning, we generally have not been able to deploy the learning systems on a very wide scale, although there certainly are exceptions.
